Hot or not? ARTEMIS Strain Repair Cream 30%

The experience of heat on the skin depends on four factors:
- The amount used, as the more you use the hotter it gets.
- The place applied, as different areas of the body with are more sensitive (e.g. neck is more quickly sensitive to heat applications than lower back).
- Different people have different skin sensitivity.
- How long someone has used a herbal cream that contains Cayenne.
Repeated applications lead to desensitisation, analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity as Cayenne depletes over time the neuropeptide 'substance P' in affected nerve endings, which are responsible for transmitting pain and heat to the brain. This means the longer someone applies Cayenne - which is preferable for therapeutic results - the less pain and heat they will feel. This action is best illustrated by the fact that in India local people are observed to eat their regular curries (containing high amounts of Cayenne) very hot. These curries are almost inedible for the unaccustomed due to the intense heat sensation they cause in the mouth. The desensitisation of nerve fibres is a temporary effect related to the use of Cayenne.

A therapeutically active herbal cream that contains Cayenne will continue to be effective even when little heat is felt.

For first time users I recommend that the extra strength herbal cream is used sparingly. In some people it takes time until the skin heats up. Warmth can be felt intermittently for many hours (and some report even the next day!). It is better not to reapply the cream too quickly if no immediate response is felt. The heat response can be accelerated by applying it after a shower, through putting a hot water bottle on the place applied or through doing moderate exercise.

Caution: Do not use on open wounds or where there is a history of allergic reactions towards Cayenne. This cream is not suitable for children and for elderly people with brittle skin! People who wear contact lenses should use glasses for the application of this cream.
