General Questions
- I've purchased 2 different teas, (e.g. Liver Detox and Kidney Cleanse) but one looks like I've received less. Why is this?
- The weight is the same for all ARTEMIS Health Teas but their volume varies. For example some recipes use leaf material which is bulky and therefore looks bigger than other recipes which use ingredients such as seeds. Regardless of the different volumes in the different blends, each dose of health tea requires only 1g of herbs.
- My Liver Detox Tea / Pregnancy Tea looks as if it has moths or weevils in it?
- Globe Artichoke leaves are used in the Liver Detox and milled Raspberry is used in the Pregnancy Tea - both herbs have a web-like appearance and can stick to the can or bag. Please rest assured we have not put 'carpet dust' or 'weevils' into your tea! Neither has it gone mouldy or gone off (the bitter taste in the Liver Detox Tea is normal!) - this is simply how these loose herbs look when chopped finely. All ARTEMIS products are manufactured under strict organic pest control to guarantee that they are free of insects.
- The ARTEMIS Health Tea I bought recently looks somewhat different to the previous batch. Is there something wrong?
- Like wine, seasonal variety in weather, soil conditions and varying locations of where they are grown affect the taste and appearance. The same is true of herbs. It does not lessen the quality or medicinal properties of the remedies, so it is normal for batches to vary slightly in appearance, taste and/or consistency.
I'm pregnant
- Can I drink the ARTEMIS teas during pregnancy?
- Yes! All ARTEMIS Health Teas are safe for pregnant women within the recommended dosage.
- I am pregnant and have been told not to take St. John's Wort?
- This is not true. St. John's Wort in tea form has no reported side-effects and is confirmed to be safe to take while pregnant.
Also, external use of St. John's Wort oil - as in the ARTEMIS Nerve & Skin Rescue Oil - is safe to use in pregnancy and is recommended as an excellent oil to prevent stretch marks, to use as a perineum guard and to lessen nerve pain during and after birth. - ARTEMIS Pregnancy Tea contains Raspberry. I have heard that it is unsafe to take Raspberry in the earlier part of pregnancy.
- This is not true. Raspberry is an extremely safe herb which is traditionally proven and scientifically researched to be not only safe but beneficial in pregnancy. It tones the uterus while pregnant and improves the strength of contraction at birth to accelerate delivery and reduce medical intervention. Traditionally, midwifes recommend its use from early pregnancy onwards to achieve best results.
- Is it safe to take the ARTEMIS tinctures while pregnant?
- All ARTEMIS fresh-plant tinctures (e.g. Vein Support Tincture for haemorrhoids) are very safe to take during pregnancy. The exception is ARTEMIS Tissue Repair Tincture which we don't recommend during pregnancy, but is safe and beneficial after birth and during breastfeeding.
I'm taking pharmaceutical drugs
- I am taking prescription medication, which ARTEMIS products can I safely take?
- Everything! All herbs and dosages in the ARTEMIS range have been thoroughly checked for herb-drug interactions (data on file). This makes the ARTEMIS range the number 1 safe choice for natural health care alongside a drug regime.
- Are herbal teas containing St. John's Wort truly safe in conjunction with drugs?
- St. John's Wort in tea form does not interact with drugs. This is based on epidemiological and scientific data and confirmed by the Swiss Health Department (Swissmedic (1/2002, pp. 7-8)).
- Is it true that St. John's Wort should not be taken in conjunction with the Contraceptive Pill?
- No this is not true. Blood tests have shown that St John's Wort does not reduce contraceptive cover.
- What are the safety considerations of the powerful drugs warfarin, digoxin, anti-rejection drugs, anti-HIV drugs, phenytoin and phenobarbital in conjunction with herbs?
- These strong drugs have a narrow therapeutic window and even some food cause interactions. Therefore, even though there is no evidence of herb-drug interaction with the herbs and dosage we use in the ARTEMIS range we recommend that these critical drugs are taken at different times of day from herbs (and food) to reduce the potential of interaction. They should be separated by at least 1 hour. It may also be warranted to start a herbal remedy at one dose per day for a week then build it up to the recommended dosage. It is best to monitor blood levels to ascertain individual reactions.
