Artemis Herbal Medicine
Introducing ARTEMIS' Visionary and Founder,
Sandra Clair MA. (Berne), Grad.Dip.Health Science, Dip.Body Therapy
A passion for providing people with the highest quality, freshest, purest, most potent herbal remedies motivated traditional Swiss Herbalist, Sandra Clair, to launch ARTEMIS in Dunedin, New Zealand in 1998.
Sandra is a leader in the field of herbal remedies, combining a scientific approach to herbalism with a holistic, naturopathic approach to well-being. She has created a highly effective range of totally natural, certified organic Herbal Tea Therapies and Body Care Therapies.
A highly qualified health practitioner and guest lecturer at the University of Otago School of Pharmacy and School of Medicine, Sandra has a Masters in history with an interdisciplinary thesis in ethnomedicine (University of Berne, Switzerland) a post-graduate degree in health science (University of New England, Australia) and diplomas in Body Therapy (Switzerland) and Foot Reflexology (Germany).
However, it was a three-year apprenticeship with a Swiss Catholic nun, Sister Pauline, which was the most significant time in Sandra's training. Sister Pauline - a herbalist and midwife - taught Sandra proven traditions in herbal remedies that go back many centuries, the accumulated knowledge of ancient botanical wisdom. The time spent with Sister Pauline was the real beginning of Sandra's passion for therapeutic herbal remedies and helping as many people as she can with them.
Because of Sandra's reputation she has the distinguished honour of being the caretaker of the Materia Medica 'Tabernaemontanus', a priceless work, first published in Switzerland in 1588. This tome is believed to be the oldest medicine book in New Zealand.
